So you love them for years to come.
A functional test on any and all stitches, including the basic, basting, ecorative, reverse, satin, and buttonhole. We listen carefully to the sound of the machine as it stitches. We check motor brushes, power supply capacitors, clean out free arm and feed dog, oil and manually test all lubrication points, check timing, bobbin winder, plastic gears. We check that upper and lower thread tension is to specification. The foot controller is checked for corroded carbon tracks, bad capacitors.
If we have found any plastic gear, motor brush, capacitor, wire, mechanism not to specification, we change this this now. Cleaning of all electrical contacts. We test and set the timing, clean tensioner channel and test upper and lower tension. We use a 100x microscope to inspect the hook and bobbin for burring. We then repeat the testing process so that we don't overlook any other potential issue. We run the machine for at least 10 minutes at different speeds. We then sew on all stitches.
One of the only mechanical or electrical weak points of these vintage Berninas are the foil and electrolytic capacitors that were used during that era by many manufacturers. We test and replace with high quality ERO (tm) brand capacitors to give the machine many years of service. We run ESR and current tests on the circuit board and replace any transformer, choke, resistor, connector, switch or component that is likely to fail or is failing.
Unit is cleaned of lint and excess old grease and oil on the inside, and then the outside of the machine is degreased, polished, and paint is touched up with OEM Sherwin Williams Polane two-part paint needed. The machine is then given a coat of anti UV wax. Items are removed from the case and the case is cleaned on the inside and out. Hinges and latches are checked. A copy of the manual is printed if the original is not present. Missing items are added as deemed appropriate.
